Not ready to be a parent?
You have the power to make the best of a difficult situation. Adoption is a loving plan that helps you care for your child well. Be knowledgeable. Be confident. Be empowered.
Adoption may be an option that you are considering. You may be wondering what adoption is like. You may feel that you could never choose adoption. Whatever your thoughts, it is always good to have information about all of your choices before you make a final decision.
Adoption does NOT mean you don’t love your baby. In fact, making an adoption plan means that you DO love your baby and that you are making plans to best meet the future needs of your child.
Adoption is NOT the same as it once may have been. Today adoption is not about severing relationships, it’s about changing them and meeting the needs of everyone involved. It’s a plan. It’s a life plan that you get to be a part of, if you choose.
While it’s true that with adoption your parental rights and responsibilities are given to another set of parents, that does not end your ability to have a relationship with your child. Open adoption involves an ongoing, dynamic relationship between you, the adoptive parents of your choice, and your child.
There are different types of adoption plans to meet different needs and different levels of comfort. You owe it to yourself and your baby to get some information about the options available to you so that whatever you chose, your decision is based on facts. There is no easy solution to an unplanned pregnancy. Each choice is hard and has its own difficulties. You can empower yourself by getting as much information as you can about your options. Give yourself time to consider what is best for you and what plan you would like to make for your child.
